Why would you want to switch to natural laundry soap, you ask? Main-stream laundry detergent is packed with chemicals like sulfates, fragrances, as well as others. Many brands contain things like petroleum distillates. The fragrances in these detergents are made of a mix of unhealthy chemicals. Is this what you want on your clothes?
Making your own laundry soap is a fast and simple process. You only need three basic ingredients:
The Basic Recipe
• 1 Bar of Soap, finely grated (14.1 oz) (Plain Castile, Fels Naptha, or Dr. Bronners)
• 3 cups Borax (We use 20 Mule Team)
• 3 cups Washing Soda (We use Arm & Hammer)
1. We make the laundry soap in our food processor. (Much easier!, you can hand grate it if you like?.)
2. Add in 1 1/2 cups of Borax and 1 1/2 cups of Washing Soda and process again so that it mixed together nicely.
This should make about 9 cups of detergent.
Use 1 tablespoon or maybe two, depending on how dirty the clothes are and how big the load is.
